Upgrades in Store for Srinagar Airport to Accommodate Increased Traffic
Officials announced on Thursday that they will implement key measures to handle the anticipated increase in passengers at the international airport in Srinagar. Among these measures are the installation of additional baggage-checking machines and the introduction of electric vehicles to transport passengers. The officials also plan to set up a police unit and a police facilitation counter to cater to the needs of tourists and address their grievances and complaints.

Top officers from various departments, including the police, civil administration, Central Reserve Police Force, tourism department, and airport management attended a meeting to review the airport’s security and functioning, and they made the announcement during the meeting. During the meeting, the officials discussed measures to reduce congestion, such as increasing the number of baggage-checking machines and introducing electric vehicles.
Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh and Director General Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) Zulfiqar Hasan conducted the event, and top officers of the civil administration, police, the Central Reserve Police Force, the tourism department, and the airport attended it.
To help tourists, the officials plan to set up a police facilitation counter at the airport and establish a police unit to address their needs and complaints. They also said they will consider a proposal to set up an extended baggage and check-in counter in Srinagar city to reduce congestion at the airport.
The officials believe that these measures will help the airport handle the anticipated increase in air traffic, particularly during the upcoming G20 visits, tourist season, and Amarnath yatra.
Officials stated that they will ensure that no service, including taxi services, overcharges any passenger.
They announced that they will perform a security audit on the airport and its surrounding premises to eliminate any potential threat.
