Vikram Dev Dutt Appointed as Director General of DGCA: A Milestone in Aviation Industry
The appointment of Vikram Dev Dutt as the next director general of the Directorate of General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). It was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on Saturday. Dutt, a 1993-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram, and Union Territory) cadre, will take over as the head of the aviation regulator on February 28, 2023. He will be succeeding the incumbent DGCA chief Arun Kumar, a 1989-batch IAS officer.
Dutt was appointed as the Chairman and Managing Director of Air India Ltd as part of a senior-level bureaucratic reshuffle effected by the Centre in 2022. Prior to that, he was serving as Secretary to the Government of India, Ministry of Civil Aviation. He has also held important posts in the Department of Economic Affairs and the Department of Financial Services.
DGCA plays a crucial role in the functioning of the aviation sector in India. It is responsible for the civil aviation activities in the country’s air transport services and the protection of passengers.
