Newly released data by Airports Council International (ACI) World has placed Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport in the top 10 busiest airports in the world for 2022. Delhi Airport claimed the 9th spot on the list, while Paris International Airport was placed in the 10th position.

The footfall at Delhi Airport witnessed a significant year-on-year growth of 60.2%, with a total of nearly 59.5 million passengers in 2022. This number is 13% higher than the airport’s pre-pandemic figure recorded in 2019.
According to a press release by Airports Council International (ACI), the increase in the volume of travelers indicates a significant reopening of cross-border travel. ACI has released the list of the ten most crowded airports worldwide for 2022, and some of the largest airport hubs have made a comeback as international traffic resumes, which is a crucial step towards the complete recovery of air travel from the pandemic’s effects.

ACI reported that global passenger traffic in 2022 nearly reached 7 billion with the resumption of international travel. This marks a 53.5% increase from 2021 and a 73.8% recovery from the 2019 results.
The busiest airport in the world
Moreover, In 2022, the Atalanta Airport earned the title of the world’s busiest airport. The United States accounts for half of the top 10 airports worldwide, all of which have a substantial percentage of domestic passengers (between 75% and 95% of total traffic), according to ACI. Within the top 10 list, London Heathrow (LHR) has accomplished the most significant advancement. The airport leaped from the 54th spot to number 8 after the borders reopened in March 2022, following two years of lockdowns.
